Q&A

Respite:

Respite care is a short-term to medium-term accommodation option for children and adults with disabilities. By organising a break from their daily routines, carers and parents can take some time to themselves while knowing their loved one is happy and safe.

Depending on your NDIS plan, you may have funding available for respite care (Short Term Accommodation and Assistance) under Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Life.

The length of stays in respite care can vary from a few hours to overnight and even up to a few weeks. The NDIS defines short-term respite accommodation as up to two weeks and medium-term as above two weeks.

Tea-cup Cottage provides respite care in unique homes that cater to a range of disabilities, including Autism (ASD), Intellectual Disability, Mental Health, Physical Disability, and Complex Needs.

Each home has unique features and offers activities to cater to each individual’s preferences. The Bean is perfect for guests with cerebral palsy, vision impairment or needing respiratory support, catering to physical, intellectual and complex needs. Cubby House is designed for children with disabilities at all levels, and Potter’s Nest is suitable for people aged over the 18 who require wheelchair accessible accommodation.

We provide a range of services that offer support for children with disabilities.

Our respite care location, Cubby House, is a Tea-cup Cottage home that is designed to allow children with disability to play, learn and grow. Staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by an experienced and friendly team, Cubby House offers a home away from home, providing a space for families to recuperate and a place for children to play. It has been designed to cater to a variety of disabilities, including autism (ASD), intellectual disability, mental health, physical disability, and complex needs. Stay lengths at Cubby House can vary anywhere between one night to two or more weeks.

If your child has other care needs or requires in-home support, the team at Tea-cup Cottage are happy to tailor a program that suits your needs.

Yes, all of Tea-cup Cottage’s staff are highly trained and qualified to provide support, helping with daily routines, organising activities, and assisting in learning new skills.  Our team members are great listeners and will tailor supports and activities to ensure you have an enjoyable stay.  We have around 300 team members ranging across different fields, such as clinical staff, physiotherapists, and psychology, allowing us to match you with the right support staff.
